A flash flood watch remained in effect today in the San Gabriel Mountains and the Antelope Valley as “copious amounts of monsoonal moisture will continue to stream across Southern California” through the end of the day, the National Weather Service said.

Because of the monsoonal moisture, there’s a chance of showers and thunderstorms again today, forecasters said. Any thunderstorm may produce intense downpours, which could trigger flash flooding, according to the NWS.

“Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation,” according to an NWS statement, which said flash flooding and debris flows will be a threat especially in areas previously denuded in wildfires.

While today’s highest chance of flash flooding was in the San Gabriels and Antelope Valley, a flash flood watch was in effect until late Wednesday in the San Fernando, Santa Clarita and San Gabriel valleys.

At the same time, temperatures will remain high, with the hottest community expected to be Woodland Hills.

The NWS forecast mostly partly cloudy skies today and thunderstorms in the San Gabriels and Antelope Valley, along with highs of:

• 80 degrees in Avalon

• 81 at LAX

• 88 in Long Beach

• 89 on Mount Wilson

• 90 in Downtown Los Angeles

• 94 in Burbank

• 95 in San Gabriel

• 96 in Lancaster

• 97 in Pasadena and Palmdale

• 99 in Saugus

• 100 in Woodland Hills

Temperatures will stay the same in some communities Friday but drop by a few degrees in others, and by a few degrees more on Saturday.

Partly cloudy skies were forecast in Orange County, along with highs of 73 in Laguna Beach; 76 in San Clemente; 79 in Newport Beach; 90 in Mission Viejo; 91 in Irvine; 92 in Anaheim; 93 in Fullerton; and 94 in Yorba Linda. Orange County temperatures will be 2-3 degrees lower Friday.
