Wil Myers provided the thump for San Diego, going 2-for-3 to raise his Cactus League batting average to .400. Hunter Renfroe plated Myers with a sixth-inning double.
Luis Perdomo held the Dodgers scoreless for three frames, while striking out two and allowing two hits. He’s fighting for one of the final two spots in the rotation, and the right-hander did nothing to hurt his cause, lowering his Cactus League ERA to 2.41. Perdomo could learn his fate soon — likely before Friday, when fellow candidates Trevor Cahill and Jarred Cosart are slated to pitch.
“We’re probably inclined to make a decision here before that,” Padres manager Andy Green said. “In the next day or so we’ll announce something for those last couple spots.”
In a similarly short outing, Julio Urias allowed two hits over 2 2/3 frames for the Dodgers. Reliever Chris Hatcher pitched two perfect innings after Urias’ exit.
San Diego’s Christian Bethancourt — who is transitioning to a pitcher/catcher hybrid role — tossed a scoreless sixth, then flied out in the top of the seventh. It marked the first time he’s pitched and hit in the same game this spring.
Padres Up Next: Fresh off being named Opening Day starter, Jhoulys Chacin will start against the White Sox at 12:05 p.m. PT (MLB.TV)j on Wednesday. It’ll be the final start of the spring for Chacin, who was sharp in his last time out against Texas. Bullpen candidates Jose Torres and Craig Stammen are also slated to pitch.
Dodgers Up Next: Wednesday is Getaway Day for the Dodgers, who break camp after playing the Mariners in Peoria in Clayton Kershaw‘s final tune-up before his Opening Day assignment, Monday vs. the Padres. Kershaw likely will pitch three innings and the 1:10 p.m. PT game will be aired on MLB Network and MLB.TV. Most Dodgers regulars, however, will have headed for California after Tuesday’s games.
