March 19 marks the 10th anniversary of the start of the Iraq War. Staff photographer Carolyn Cole was on top of the Palestine Hotel in Baghdad as the air attack began in the middle of the night, engulfing government buildings along the Tigris River. Other Los Angeles Times photographers, including Rick Loomis, Don Bartletti, Robert Gauthier, Bryan Chan, Luis Sinco, Brian van der Brug and Wally Skalij, were either en route or soon to follow as the ground campaign started to converge on the capital. Their pictures and their reflections are part of our complete coverage of the war’s anniversary.
