Local support for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles is nearly as strong as it was for Southern California hosting the 2024 Games, according to a Loyola Marymount poll commissioned by Los Angeles 2028, the local organizing committee, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce and the university.

LMU found 54 percent of Los Angeles residents responding they “strongly supported” the 2028 Games and 29 percent “somewhat” supported those Games. The 83 percent total for support is down slightly from the 88 percent support for the 2024 Games in an earlier poll by LMU. An International Olympic Committee poll conducted earlier this year found 78 percent of respondents said they supported the 2024 Games.

The most recent LMU poll found 9 percent “somewhat” opposed the 2028 Games and 8 percent said they “strongly” opposed the Games 11 years from now.

The poll was conducted July 13-18 and contacted 600 Los Angeles residents by phone or email.

Seventy percent of those reached by LMU said they would likely attend 2028 Olympic events, while 21 percent said they would leave town.
