Passenger in custody, driver sought for DUI following high speed chase

PANORAMA CITY >> A man suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs zoomed through the San Fernando Valley at speeds topping 100 mph Wednesday night before abandoning the vehicle in Panorama City and fleeing on foot.

At least one passenger was taken into custody after the car stopped about 9:15 p.m. amid some apartment building carports in the area of Van Nuys Boulevard and Tupper Street, according to reports from the scene.

The suspected driver was being sought.

The chase began about 8:40 p.m., according to Los Angeles police officer Drake Madison, who said the driver was wanted for DUI.
