SANTA CLARITA >> A 47-year-old man with a shotgun holed up inside his Santa Clarita home for more than five hours, and then surrendered Sunday without incident.

Marc Spitzer was arrested at 6:47 a.m. on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, and was booked at 8 a.m. into the sheriff’s Santa Clarita Valley station jail. He was held in lieu of $150,0000 bail, according to the sheriff’s Inmate Information Center.

Deputies were dispatched about 1:05 a.m. to Spitzer’s home in the 15200 block of Poppy Meadow Street, on a “family disturbance, with a possible person with a gun” call, said Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“Deputies responded and the situation turned into a barricade,” Navarro- Suarez said. ‘We determined that he had a weapon.”

Deputies from the sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau were dispatched to the scene at 3:43 a.m., she said.

They eventually were able to communicate with Spitzer, asking him to peacefully surrender and he did about 6:40 a.m., she said.
