A Los Angeles man arrested in Fountain Valley for a jewelry store heist has been connected to the theft of nearly $100,000 in designer hand bags and jewelry in Los Angeles, Orange and San Bernardino counties, Burbank police said.

Following 40-year-old Douglas Arevalo-Alvarado’s arrest just after midnight July 28, investigators realized he was linked to a slew of break-ins and thefts including one at Luxmary Handbags, 3421 West Magnolia Blvd, in early July where more than $90,000 in designer handbags and purses were stolen, according to a Burbank Police news release.

Detectives identified a vehicle involved in the burglary and “learned that the same vehicle was linked to several other burglaries in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Orange Counties,” the statement said.

Investigators served a search warrant at Arevlao-Alvarado’s Hollywood storage unit and found several purses and handbags taken from Luxmary along with jewelry taken in other burglaries and watches linked to a theft at the Toluca Watch Company in June, the statement read.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed two counts of burglary against Arevalo-Alvarado but as the investigation continues, police say additional charges could be added.

Arevalo was booked into Burbank Jail and is currently being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
