LAGUNA BEACH >> A man who helped himself to a nosh after breaking into a home soon found himself surrounded by police, authorities said Sunday.

The incident occurred Saturday at 4:26 a.m., when a man, later identified as Ross Simard, 34, of Malibu broke into a home in the 800 block of S. Coast Highway, said Sgt. Jim Cota.

Once inside, the man found his way to a refrigerator and helped himself to a cup of Jell-O, Cota said.

“He had food laid out in the kitchen as officers arrived,” he said.

As the man, dressed in only sweatpants, ate the Jell-O, he looked around, perhaps unaware that in Laguna Beach, business and homeowners invest in security cameras and alarms, Cota said.

Almost immediately, the home was surrounded by police officers, Cota said.

Simard was arrested on suspicion of burglary and providing a false name to police, as well as on a felony warrant for burglary in Los Angeles.
