Almost all my DVD picks are films I know and admire, but this week there are two fascinating films that I’ve heard rumors of but never had the opportunity to see until now.
“J’acusse,” released by Olive Films, is a 1938 anti-war drama by the great Abel Gance, a director best known for the epic silent “Napoleon.” It’s about a traumatized World War I veteran who invents something he hopes will put an end to war.
“Children of Divorce” stars two of Hollywood’s biggest stars, Gary Cooper and Clara Bow, but it has never been on DVD before. Cooper plays a wealthy businessman, Bow a woman angling to marry him for his money. Directed by Frank Lloyd, this is the 50th film to be released by the wonder folks at Flicker Alley. – Kenneth Turan
