If you love good Westerns (and who doesn’t?), the appearance of a pair of 1940s classics on Blu-Ray has to be good news.
Coming from the Warner Archive Collection and the best known of the two is 1949’s “She Wore A Yellow Ribbon,” part of John Ford’s cavalry trilogy and starring John Wayne as a veteran officer coming to the end of his tour of duty. Monument Valley never looked better than it does in “Ribbon’s” Oscar-winning cinematography.
Dating from 1943 and released by Kino Lorber is William Wellman’s “The Ox-Bow Incident,” starring Henry Fonda in a story of vigilante justice gone wrong.
Powerful stuff. – Kenneth Turan
