Kenneth Turan’s DVD Pick of the Week – Fairy Tales Times Two
Fairy tales come in all shapes and sizes, and this week we have two
recently re-released classics from different corners of the cinema universe.
Walt Disney’s 1937 “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” was not only
the first animated feature film, it remains as entertaining (if not more) as
many of its more modern compatriots.
Decades later came a live action fairy tale, the Lerner & Lowe
musical “My Fair Lady,” starring Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn. Winner of
eight Oscars, including best picture, its story of the snooty professor and
the scrappy street vendor never fails to charm. – Kenneth Turan
