Police Thursday were investigating the murder of a 12-year-old boy and a 44-year-old man at a Riverside County home. Police received 911 calls from neighbors around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday about two people that appeared to be dead inside a residence in the 400 block of Winthrop Drive in Hemet, Lt. Dean Evans said.
A family member who found the bodies told KCAL9’s Tom Wait that the victims were her older brother and his son — both were stabbed multiple times. The victims were identified as Deon Boyd and Deon Jr., Wait reported. Both of the victims were reported dead at the scene. “At this point it appears that the attack was not random and the suspect may be known to the victims,” Lt. Evans said. Around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, authorities pulled over a car on Simpson Road at Shady Tree Lane in Hemet. An officer said the occupant of the vehicle was acting suspiciously. Officials said the vehicle was reported stolen Thursday morning and was registered to the home where the murders occurred. The driver — who also lived at the residence — was arrested. According to Hemet Police, Officer M. Gomez conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the 28500 block of Shady Tree Lane, about 14 miles away from the scene of the double homicide. The driver and murder suspect was identified as Quilik Lamont Walton, who turned 23 last week.
Boyd’s family said Walton had a history of mental issues. Police said they found evidence in the car that will link him to the homicides. The victim’s sister and aunt told Wait her brother was a loving man who cared deeply for his son. Family also told Wait that Walton was Boyd’s stepson. Tom Wait reports.
