An employee of a doughnut shop who had a loaded gun pointed at him Wednesday during a robbery attempt was able to grab the weapon after a physical altercation, authorities said.

The incident was reported at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at 403 N. Victory Blvd., said Burbank police Sgt. Fletcher Stone.

Two black men entered the shop, one wielding a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, Stone said.

One of the men produced the handgun and demanded money from the employee, Stone added, before a physical altercation ensued and the suspect attempted to shoot the worker.

However, the employee was able to grab the gun from the suspect during the altercation and take it away before the men fled the store in a white vehicle, Stone said.

The investigation is continuing.
