If “Puig, your friend,” then this might be Puig’s best friend.

Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig found himself in an interesting situation with a diehard fan on Monday morning in New York City.

Puig and the Dodgers were riding high, fresh off their weekend sweep of the lowly New York Mets at Citi Field.

As Puig was leaving his hotel with a group of people, a fan began to follow the Cuban slugger’s taxi, seeking an autograph.

Puig jokingly wrote on his Instagram account that the told the fan, “Show me how fast you are and I’ll sign the baseballs for you.”

Regardless, if Puig was being genuine, the fan took Puig seriously and outran the taxi for three blocks before the cab finally pulled over and Puig signed two baseballs for the young, Latino fan.

Puig posted the whole thing on his social media accounts saying at the end of his caption:

“Only in New York haha #PuigYourFriend.”

You have to admire the young fan’s determination in the video as a female occupant in the cab with Puig is heard off-camera saying, “pobrecito,” which roughly translates in Spanish to “Poor little thing.”

Meanwhile, Puig and the Dodgers traveled on Monday to Phoenix where they will play a three-game series with the division rival Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
